Will a Rem 1100 barrel fit a Sportsman 58?

I picked up a Remington Sportsman 58 with a plain, FC barrel. Will an 1100 barrel fit and the gas operation work properly, etc.?

"Barrels are obsolete, but new barrel can be made by utilizing a new 870 barrel and drilling a gas orifice hole to accommodate the gas. If no existing barrel is available, take a look at a 1100 barrel to judge the angle of the hole. Determine the size of the hole by the chart listed below. The conversion of a 870 barrel to a 58 is usually not within the scope of the average home gunsmith, as the hole has to be EXACT, or the barrel is ruined."

Thanks, I've seen that before. I guess I'll have to buy an 1100 barrel just to look at it. A good excuse to just buy an 1100. God, it never ends, does it.

be carefull buying a 1100 barrel don't know if it is true but was told older remington barrels will not fit on the new 1100's and vise versus a call to remington will confirm this it's toll free as i said i was told this not saying it is for sure

The Sportsman 58 will not fit or work on the Rem.1100
