Will a Russian SKS accept a magazine made for a SKS-D?

If you want it just for looks you can use those duckbill mags (see above). From the reviews I've read they're not very practical and more of a hassle when shooting.

Forget about the AK mags in a russian sks. Not worth the significant hassle.

For shooting, the standard sks mag works very well. Just load it with stripper clips, very fast, very easy.

Three options.

1. Buy duckbill magazines. Metal preferred over the plastic/Zytel ones. However the SKS45 was never designed for removable magazines, and their performance is less than perfect. If you want it for looks, sure go for it. But you still can only shoot 5 rounds, so they are not that practical. They don't come out as quickly and smoothly as AK magazines.

2. Try to get a U.S. supplier to send you a conversion kit to accept AK magazines or get lucky and find one here. They run around $200.00 CAD. GFL with that though.

3. Buy an SKS-D.

I bought a Russian SKS, I just wanted to know if I have any options for a detachable magazine. I don’t want to do some huge conversation or to spend a couple hundred bucks to do it. Just figured some company would make a magazine that works with it.

Why don't you just buy an sks-d??? Why mess with something like that?

Why not

i need a detachable mag for my russian sks blocked to 5 rounds, it will be a cosmetic conversion as you can tell blocked to 5 rounds but let me know if anyone knows where i can get em

You probably wouldn't really be interested, considering what is involved.
But post the results, I long to stand corrected on this one :).

The kit requires woodwork on the stock, bedding the mag well, and simply changing out the trigger group.

You'd be better to buy a "D" and avoid the hassle.

The plastic/Zytel mags won't work the way you think in a Russian SKS. These guns were never designed for detachable magazines. That's why the AK47 was invented. While I am not implying it won't work all together, it won't work smoothly like the box mag will. Your best bet is to buy a "D".
