Will a standard Enfield pull-through fit a .22 barrel?

I was wondering if anyone out there could try a standard Enfield pull-through in a .22 barrel to see if it will fit.

I am trying to find the correct oilers and pull-throughs for my trainers and wondered if it mattered. I do have one pull-through but I don't know if it is a standard one or specifically for a .22.

Also, the patch attachment for the pullthrough does not screw into it. Is there some kind of adaptor that I am missing? It just sits in there and you can pull it out without unscrewing it.

I doubt it and you really don't want to get one stuck... ;)

The set that ~Angel~ has in her Long Branch .22 trainers appears to be a much smaller size.

No I don't use it to clean the rifle. I just want one to put in the butt trap!!! I would prefer an original one from one of our many fabulous wars.

I've never seen an issue .22 pull through. They were not used with the CNo.7 rifles. No idea what was issued for use with the IV* and BSA Martini .22s. The butt storage would be a holdover for the .303 pullthrough and oiler. You could always put an oiler and a commercial .22 pullthrough in the space.

Yes, I suppose I could. The one pullthrough that I have came inside a Sht. 22 IV* that was RCAF issue. Anyone could have put it there I suppose.

Just to answer the origional question, the standard 303 pullthrough will not come anywhere close to fitting into a 22 barrel. I actually went to the gun room and tried it for you, although I already was pretty sure about the answer. The weighted end is HUGE compared to the 22 bore, and I doubt that you would even get the cord through the 22 bore, and certainly not where it loops.

The standard 303 pullthrough was not threaded , so there were no attachments for it, other than the wire gauze and the patches, which fit through the loops. I do have attachments issued against the 303 but used with cleaning rods, such as an attachment which has what looks like a woodscrew, used to pull out stuck patches. There were also the bore guages which also likely went onto cleaning rods.

I think so, as I've never heard of a military pull thru for the .22 trainers stored in the butt. Heck, I trained with them in the early 60's and don't even remember using a pull thru. :D

The Cdn issued pieces marked .22 Cal 1944 and C No.7 Mk1 came with the cleaning accessories I showed you in the first pic. We used the rod and 4x2 patches torn (downsized) to fit into the barrel properly, without getting stuck. BTW, that happened a lot anyway ... :D
