Do you thing that if the Liberals get turfed we may see hicap mags again? Even 10 rounds would be an improvement.

In the absense of law there would be anarchy...

Seriously, was the capacity ban in the bill or was it done in council like the 12(6) ban?

The magazine capacity laws predate C68. They were given to us by Kim Cambell, during the old Conservative parties regime. The regulation took a while to implement because there seemed to be difficulty determining just what constituted a permanent alteration.

I doubt we'll see any real changes in this law anytime soon. We have a ways to go before the public realises it makes little difference to a criminal what the capacity of his mag is, or that any tangible benifit exists by reversing the magazine capacity regulations.

One thing i don't understand, why is the cap limit for long arms lower than hand guns, when apparently the liberals say handguns are the evil ones!

Most crooks don't empty their 10rd mag, let alone a 15rd one!
Where have you been that is how shots it takes them to murder the guy standing in front of him:eek:
And on the Issue of the Mag Capacity lets see how well the Tories do and them contact your MP and demand some changes to C68

Just casual observation of the number of cases found at scenes shown on TV, etc.

The reason they were prohibited in the first place was due to the fellow who shot up the girls at that engineering school way back when. A mini 14 with a 30 round mag did an awful lot of damage. Yet I think it's arguably the single lone act of hi cap magazine violence that Canada has ever seen that the criminal actually did use the whole 30 rounds. Immediately after the incident the whole controversy started and it stemmed the prohibiting of them. And I was told that Canada has never had one single death from an assault rifle or full auto, taking into consideration that the mini isn't an assault rifle. Just my 2 cents...

I don't recall what the mag capacities were that Muslim extremist Gamil Gharbi (aka marc lepine) had, but he had apparently tried (unsuccessfully) to convert the gun to full-auto, and as a result, ended up having to #### the gun with each shot, much like a bolt action. So his full or high capacity magazines were not really the issue. He also ended his spree with plenty of ammo left over.
Be it one bullet or hundreds, the use of firearms by criminals is the problem, not the capacity of the law abiding enthusiasts gun. Hopefully, in about 4 hours time, we'll have a government who also believes this, and punishes the criminals as a detterrent, instead of disarming all the law abiding citizenry.

We have only won a reprieve with our victory last night. The house is still controlled by the anti gun Liberals, NDP, and BQ. They could get together and introduce private members bills on the subject just to embarass the conservatives when the time comes. To top it off, the "has been" Liberal appointees will control the senate for at least 5 more years as well, so don't count on too many reversals of these Liberal "victories".
There are two things now which will make the difference. First, with the conservatives in (minor) control of the house, they must start really investigating the adscam etc, whereas the Gomery commission really had a narrow scope of questions to look into. I suspect and hope that the Conservatives will start sending Liberal politicians along with the backroom boys to jail, and timing it with any future election. This worked great in Saskatchewan after the provincial Conservative Grant Devine era, after which the NDP continued to send conservatives to jail for graft and theft for the next 8 years. The Conservative party in Saskatchewan finally had to fold up. (They now exist as the Saskatchewan Party).
Second, Harper must now appear as a rational, thoughtful, and smart politician. It was only the Liberal fear mongering that kept the party down. Combined with the reaults in my first scenario, the conservatives could pull a majority in the next election.

I wouldn't bother putting the drill in the drill press to take out those rivets quite yet.

Hey, lets use "Full Capacity".......... "High Capacity" sounds too evil... for now. One step at a time boys, the rest of the country has to come with us.
