I was just wondering. Since Bushmaster is going to manufacture Masada and civilian model will be available.(like myself, many AR lovers must be waiting and saving their loons for), will HK make 416, 417 models available for civilian market and more precisely for Canadian market?? (make it semi-auto only)

Wouldn't HK want to compete and do better in their AR markets in US and Canada??

Just a thought from a newbie.

They've already announced it months ago with the MR223 and MR308.

They have been "okayed" in Germany for sale, so I assume those would be the models we will get.

I think that the US made ones will be to cater to the US market, and any rifles sold out of the USA would be made in Germany.

The 416 will be restricted (obviously its an AR15) but we can always hope the 417 will be non-restricted, however who knows on that one....

It will be interesting to see the pricing on these if/when they hit the market. I can see picking up an upper if the price is reasonable, but that term can only rarely be applied to anything with HK on it. If they're crazy expensive, even after the full civilian sales price stream comes on-line, I think I'll just stick with my tried and true direct gas system as designed by Stoner. Not like I'll be facing bad guys in the "sandbox" or anything. I'm hoping that they'll be within reach though.

Has there been a ruling by the RCMP that the 416 is restricted?

I'm more excited about the possibility of a non-rest Bushmaster ACR...

That sporter version with the fixed stock looks like a good candidate.

For some reason I was thinking they had come up with their own system.

Nope. The whole deal with the HK416, was the ability to retrofit current lowers with the 416 upper. It was one of the "bonuses" that HK offered, to sell the upper system (for 1200 dollars military pricing IIRC) so that they would have an edge on other contracts.

Of course who knows if it will pan out (didn't work for the new 2008 Colt contracts). But the 416 upper is compatible with ANY mil. Spec. AR15 lower, which is a nice bonus to AR15 owners ;)

Now the 417 is technically different, but who knows if they'll consider it a variant or not. IIRC the 417 uses several (if not all) of the 416/AR15 trigger group parts.
