Will HK45's ever come back to Canada?

IIRC they are made in Germany, are they not? So why would an American export ban stop shipments to Canada? Is their a chance of them ever returning? I was told that the early HK45's were made in Germany, and now they will be made in the United States, whereas in Germany they continue to make the USP series, is this true?

Yes it is. The HK45 was first made in Germany in 2007-2008 and then the tooling was brought in the USA (New Hampshire) in late 2008 so it could be made in america, the first weapon made in the new facility. Market was not that good in Germany and the pistol was first designed for a US military contract (the U.S. Military Joint Combat Pistol program).

HK USA has banned the export of them, any that come to Canada, get bought privately from an HK dealer then get legally exported into Canada. HK is upset about it, and is trying to stop it, has asked for serial numbers of guns in Canada, and is trying to track down the U.S. dealer selling them to guys sending them to Canada. Its HK USA that is being the bafoon. They are one of the finest 45's ever made, in fact the 1911 crowd are some of the most radical converts as it is really a much improved 1911. Its an awesome pistol. The U.S. made ones are every bit as good as the German made ones, in spite of not having to go through the third party proof house. HK is keeping the quality high.

Am I correct that the USP series is still in production in Germany? I thought I remember reading somewhere it wasn't.

The real hang up is that the importer (everyone's favorite importer) has no relationship with HK USA, it isn't that HK USA doesn't want to sell the handguns in Canada - they simply have no distributor based way of selling HK USA products in Canada. I'm pretty sure HK USA wouldn't mind the guns coming North, they just can't service them properly when they're here. They wouldn't if they had a relationship with the importer here either, since everyone's favorite anti-gun importer is their sole agent. If Wolverine, or some other distributor had a deal with HK USA, I'm sure the situation would be much better, but then you have HK with 2 different distributors - which is probably a breach of the old guys contract. HK's motto might be "because you suck and we hate you" but that's better than their importers motto, which seems to be "who are you, again - and what was it that you ordered".

He doesn't explain in detail why but Here's what a HK USA Tech replied regarding exporting to Canada: "HK-USA is strictly prohibited from "exporting" anything to Canada...not even a spring or part for a magazine. You will have to contact R.Nicholls Distributors in Canada or HK Germany directly."

Here's the link : http://www.hk-usa.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8392

I think that Wolverine, Epps and other dealers/distriburors probably already tried to get some from HK USA and were simply anwsered "No, we wont send anything to Canada."

Yes, HK (the parent company) has an exclusive distributorship with the aforementioned anti-gun gun distributor, however HK (USA) has no relationship with clusterflop central, and therefore is stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have a sneaking suspicion HK USA has too much self esteem to deal with the patients at the funny farm, they probably value competence.

HK45 and parts

Between my friend and I we have 5 HK45s - just sold one of mine - none for sale, unfortunately. I did just import $700 worth of HK parts - ejectors, extractors, springs, firing pins. If anyone needs this stuff just let me know. I can tell you how to get parts. I am not selling parts. One of my HK45s sold for $1800 - a deal.

Buffalo gun center gets them periodically. They charge $100 plus 5% of the cost of the guin to export them to the border - you pick it up there and pay the 13% tax (you do not pay NY state tax).

I have purchased a Kimber and a Sig 226R (not sure I love the sig) from Gun Center. Some of the sales dudes there are crusty - some are great. I have seen guys drive in from Alberta to pick up guns there.

2 HK45's in Stock at EPPS

I had a USP .45...for a few weeks. :) Just didn;t do it for me. Is the HK45 really any better?

I wish I could afford one..................someday I will get one

Call EPPS first thing in the Morning. They show 2 in stock.

If the sellers are driving prices up simply due to an artificially created "shortage", simply import one from the US at a substantially lower cost. Simple and reasonably quick if the pistol is in stock at the dealer you buy from. I bought mine from the US for a touch under CAD 1200 including import fees and taxes. Note that I was not charged any duty.

So to be perfectly clear the notice on the wolverine supply website is at the very least misleading.
"currently this item is no longer available due to US export restrictions"

No, not much better in my opinion. Just an ergonomically upgraded USP. But, that is just based on my experience shooting both; I haven't done any research to back up my words.

The internals are the same as the USP so no improvement should be expected there (e.g. more reliability due to better parts). The ergonomics are what has primarily improved. This will come down to personal preferences.

I love the way the HK45 feels and handles so it is my primary .45 ACP.

I did not like the way the P30L felt even with the improved ergonomics so I stuck with my USP's and sold my P30L.

I think that means that HK USA isn't able to ship out their own products, due to government restrictions on them...I remember reading that somewhere. But if you source one out yourself, you should be able to have one imported using a third party importing service...

If HK-USA will not export to Canada due to existing agreements between HK Germany and R. Nichols that's fine. That doesn't prevent anyone from privately importing one.

If it is in fact a Department Of State export restriction then you will not be able to privately import it regardless of who you go through.

Does anyone have any confirmation one way or another?
