I have a mossberg 500 and the barrel on it is 20". It was obviously cut off by the previous owner. I am wondering if I will be given grief at the gun club by showing up with a "sawed off" shotgun. I am a relatively new member that is on probation. Should I just leave it in the case at home for a while? What does everyone think????

It depends on the club. Are there other shooters around using short barrelled guns?

Some clubs are more tolerant than others and I've seen clubs require a minimum length of 22" for clay targets. Where I shoot there are no restrictions on barrel length however all shotguns must be shot from the shoulder so pistol grip only guns are not allowed.

If you're a probationary member it might be prudent to leave it at home until you are a full member.

Just ask....Our club doesn't mind but it's trap club and 18-20" barrel with no choke isn't going to help you out much. Another local club shoots skeet and I see quite a few short guns there. One thing you might want to do if you bring it is get some very light loads if your self consious at all. The shorter barrels can be very loud. Many clays clubs dont like the pistol grip/ folding stock style guns on the range though. I think thats just an image thing though.
