Is anyone else worried that the recent reclassification of formerly non-restricted 22 rifles that "look" like AK's to prohibited might not be the end of it? Are the guns currently classified as "restricted" safe from being pushed one further to "prohibited"?

Its more than a little wrong that people are being forced to destroy or turn in items that they paid money for, without an opportunity to at least get some grandfathering status for what they already own.

The AP-80 is the AK-22 with the maker's, rather than an importer's, model identification.
The AK-22 has been prohibited for the better part of 20 years. It would seem that the RCMP just twigged to the relationship between the AK-22 and the AP-80. The AP-80 wasn't just targetted because it externally resembles the AK-47. It was reclassified as prohibited because it is an AK-22, by another name.
The AK-22 was classified as prohibited way back when for who knows what reason. Because it resembles an AK-47? This whole variant business is a murky can of worms, with ill-defined criteria.

The law does provide for firearms to be reclassified by Order in Council; this is a government action. The RCMP can't do it.

They can, however, determine that something can be easily converted to auto, within the vague limits of the Hasselwander SCoC decision. Google "Hasselwander", read the decision.

Are there going to be further reclassifications? Possibly? Probably?
The CFC/RCMP/some police agencies are taking C-19 very badly. Will they take their displeasure out on the citizenry?
