Will this work for reloading?

I just got a .410 for doves, problem is that I can not find .410 loads in steel.
Can I empty a good shell and refill it with steel?
Thoughts?

As a starting point, that same volume will now contain a lower weight charge of steel. Generally, that shouldn't cause a problem.

Just be sure your gun can handle steel shot.

Can you use brass for dove? I have a case of .410 sold brass shot I bought a few years ago.. seems to work for game as I'd non toxic. Expensive though..

you would need to get a steel shot wad to use it in your 410 to reload, i have seen them but it gets complicated. without that steel wad that is thicker you can damage your shotgun.

Don't forget steel shot does not compress as lead does .so my concern would be weather or not the wad would be suitable for steel shot . lead loader posted while I was typing :)

I have both nickel plated, and copper plated shot, but I have never seen solid brass shot. Who even makes solid brass shot? It must be brutally expensive.

You have to use non toxic, not nessasarily steel.
Thanks guys, if it isn't a simple swap of loads, then I had just best wait until I can find the proper stuff, no need to take any risks..

Good point about the wad, I forgot about that. Yes, wads for steel are MUCH thicker.

Really, if you must use steel for doves, I would suggest getting a larger bore gun. Steel loads for 20 ga. are much cheaper than .410.
