Will verdigris from brass....

Will verdigris from brass cause mold to grow on leather? I have a bayonet frog that mold has started to grow on, moving out from the brass pin. How would one kill the mold? I tried freezing the frog but the mold is growing back.

Any copper-based stuff such as copper naphtenate (wood preservative) can kill mold and fungus.
Its smell can kill you, though. It's really pungent stuff.

Dilute bleach with water, wipe over mold area. Should do the trick. Sometimes just a gentle cleaning with a good leather soap will work. Verdigris is a result of the interaction between the brass and the tannins in the leather-it does not cause mold in and of itself. Verdigris will etch brass and weaken the leather around the brass if left uncleaned. Joe
