Will white pistol grips discolour after a while

Looking at white grips with a rose on them for my Ruger Single 6, but I hear white grips discolour from the gunpowder. Is this true? What other experience do you have? I like to 'pretty up' my guns and these grips are pretty sweet.

Are they the simulated ivory from Ruger or an aftermarket company? I have a set with Ruger medallions on a New Vaquero, I like them. They are slightly yellow, but haven't changed over the few years I've had them.

How much are they? My opinion is a bit of patina isn't a bad thing, but I understand everyone has a different way of looking at it.

This is another set I have, and I really like how they have darkened over the years. Not synthetic, but an example of light grips that can take on a new color...

Much depends on the materials and the finish . Porish materials will accumulate debris = darken and stain from usage . Natural materials ( bone ,antler,horn and ivory ) if not sealed will all so , and will yellow with age ( patina) Synthetic materials are more stable less porish ,less likely to chip or crack .

I've seen them at gunshows around here for around $25, that was at thorncliffe.

Alternatively you could paint a layer of clearcoat on the grips to seal them against discolouration.

It's more the UV exposure that will change the colour of things like this.

Sweat from your palms will do much more to alter the colour of your grips, than gun powder will. Regardless of the material the grips are made from, if they do darken a bit from use, the additional patina usually adds to the look, rather than detract from it. I've got a set of grips on a 1911, that were originally kinda' white, after 15+ years, they've darkened somewhat - look more like old ivory. I like the look better now - not quite so stark.
