I just purchased a pre 64 model 94 lever action which has been drilled and tapped for a side mounted peep sight. The holes are 0.425" apart (center-center) and approsimatly 0.5" from the top of the receiver. Can anyone tell me if these holes line up for a Williams or a Lyman peep sight? I'm considering installing one.

:D

I just put a Williams on mine. Seems pretty good. I've only put a few rounds through it though. Shoots high at 50yards. I wasn't able to get the sight down enough.

I wasn't aware the factory drilled holes.

I believe the factory started about 1950 to provide pre drilled holes for the side mount peeps. My 1954 64 has pre drilled holes. Any, correct for the application reciever peep should fit regardless of brand:)

You'll likly have to buy a lower front sight blade. Money well spent...

Front sight change is something that you can't predict. Depends on the firearm, and the hold of the individual shooter. I have one rifle that needed a higher front sight, but all the rest that's I think six, with Lyman, Redfield and Williams peeps, have the original front sight.

Actually, if it is still shooting too high, you will have to install a TALLER front post/blade. I had the exact same problem when I installed my Williams peep on the rear.

IMHO aperatures are superior to open sights in most shooting applications. If someone wants to argue that an express sight might be better on a dangerous game rifle who am I to argue - it's his life. I installed a Lyman on an older M-94 some years ago and I had to install a higher front sight - the rifle shot too high with the rear sight bottomed out.

I have an old Redfield that is identical to the current Lyman one that is very good.

It's the rifle (or me) that doesn't shoot well.

I wish my other '94 from 1927 had the holes drilled in it, I'd put the peep sight on it in a flash.
