Anyone have any experience with these?
Williams Diopter Rear Sight for 11mm Dovetails - 5D-AG - 70809

$_12.JPG

I have recently ordered one of these for my Norinco JW-15, and am awaiting it's arrival. The rear sight dovetail on the barrel is an odd size, so I could find nothing to replace it with that would not require a lot of hand work. By mounting this on the scope dove-tail, I figure I get a target grade sight and a longer sight radius at the same time.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks!

Mark

I have one on my bl22 and really like it. The peep hole is a little bigger than I like but can get smaller ones, just haven't gotten around to it. As Dave said you'll likely have to get taller front sight. I put a Lyman front globe target sight on mine and works great. It's a little different looking with such a tall front sight but is fairly accurate and alot of fun to shoot. There's a pic of it on rimfire pics show them off on page 201 post 2009.

I have one on my Norinco backpacker (13"), it greatly improved sight radius and deliverable accuracy. The front sight was barely tall enough, and still shoots slightly high (1/2" at 25yds). You can build the front sight up slightly with JB weld and it file it to shape should work.
Otherwise the front sight base would need to be dovetail cut for a taller blade (not too hard if you have access to a lathe)

Front sight fastens with a screw (Phillips head), so a replacement would be easy; however, if it is steel (and I think it is) I will build it up with bronze; file it into a bead, and polish it; or may just put a bead of bronze on the back side and use a curved shim under it to increase the height as required. That way, the bead will remain concentric with the hood.

Gunsmithing at work is frowned upon ;( .

I put the exact sight on my jw-14 and couldn't be happier. I made my own taller front post. Excellent hunting sight and great for plinking.

It does look a bit tall, but it's the performance that matters; you like that front sight? I have an old one with a 3/8 female dove tail; all I would need would be a ramp with a male dovetail, and that I could build from aluminum.

I also have the taller front sight that I took off of my Scorpio. It fastens with 2 tiny little "T" bolts in a dovetail slot; however it would sit right on the Norinco and fasten with a screw instead, but I would lose the hood.

I do like the Lyman front sight. The bl22 receiver is quite a bit higher than the barrel so I needed the taller sight to make it work. Didn't like most of the inserts so I cut the post out of one and attached 2 fine wires in the insert for cross hairs. Like it alot more than the wide posts in most of them.

I made my post out of a small bolt with the head cut off as I lost the front post. I filed it to a small rectangular post, filed it flat on the top and blackened it with a flame. It works great. I can't rave about the Williams sight enough. You won't be disappointed. 50 yards offhand my brother dinged a 2"X2 1/2" plate every time with a 10 shot magazine.

I replaced the signts that came with 10 MP 60 Baikal airguns we have for the scouts in Ottawa with a number of 5D-AG from Williams. They work great! As mentioned by one member earlier, the hole in the peep sight could be a little smaller (and I changed that part on my personal rifle) but even as is they increase the ease of shooting by a lot. Kids also can't play with the adustments and they don't get knocked out of allignment as easy as the original sights. Williams actually gave us quite a rebate on them when I called and explained it was for kids.

I put a Skinner sight on mine. It's made for the JW15 (same as CZ) and just tightens on to the dovetail. I did need a higher front sight blade. I also got the adjustable aperture with the Skinner, so peephole size is no problem. However, the Williams sight will probably be easier to adjust. I have one on a Savage FT and it's very good.

Extending the sight radius was huge on my jw-14. I use the gun as a beater pinker camp gun. Lots of friends comment about how easy it is to use.

It looks a lot more compact and tidy; very fine workmanship.

Thanks for all of your feed back everyone! I am feeling very encouraged by what you all have written!

The complaint I have about them is that they are not click adjustments.
Have to unlock/loosen to move the sight.

Yes, that's why the Williams is probably better as a target sight. However, for a rugged little utility gun (which is what the JW15 is, at least in the 13.5 barrel version), the Skinner is pretty slick. Compact and solidly made. Sight it in for 25 yds and never mess with it again.
