Ladies and Gents,

I have a shotgun purchase question:

I have a friend who is willing to sell me a Winchester 1300 hunting rifle with a 28" VR, full choke barrel, wood stock and 2 3/4 160 rounds of ammo - half of it slugs.
The gun is 5 years old in almost excellent condition.
He is asking for 340$ for it since he wants to purchase something else for that exact amount and just wants to recoup the cost. I fired the rifle before,

I would use it for hunting and blasting away at junk.

Good or bad purchase?

With the ammo (if you have a need for slugs) it sounds reasonable to me. But does the shotgun fit you. Fit on a shotgun is very important.

I would use the shotgun mostly for target shotting, destroying stuff. One thing I would like on it is a shorter barrel since it seems a tad front heavy with the 28" barrel.
Was looking at a Maverick 88 12 Gauge Pump Action Shotgun 187$ and a Maverick Model 88 Security Pump Shotgun 187$ at S.I.R. but since I want to shoot targets at around 20-30 meters and a cylinder bore (as far as I heard) is not too accurate at that range. So an extra barrel 150$ and ammo will prolly run me more then the Win 1300 with the 160 rounds included.

I just bought my first shotgun a few weeks ago on the exchange forum.I'm the same as you with target shooting and blowing up junk.Such purposes, as ours ,has no need ,of fine, expensive, hunting shotguns.A new Mossberg Maverick 88 is 180 bucks, or buy one like I got for 75 bucks.

I've seen lots of good cheap shotguns on this forum. 340 dollars will get you 3 fine junk destroyers of different calibers.Save the good guns for those that hunt.Just my humble opinion.:pirate:

I paid $300 for one about 5 years ago in like new condition. It was the most unreliable firearm I've ever owned. I bet you can buy a new 870 for not much more.
