My father in law gave me a Winchester 2200 from the early 70's (which he bought new). Said it has seen no more than a box of shells through it. I stripped it down, and cleaned everything including the bolt. Packing grease was still everywhere, so I assume he never cleaned it when he bought it. The bolt was really gummed up. When I put it all back together, I test fired it. The first round fired fine, but I could not cycle the action...took the barrel off to get the empty hull out and figured that maybe I had not tightened the barrel enough Fired the second round, action cycled fine, but still, the hull would not eject from the gun...it simply stays on the action. Now, when I took the bolt apart, there was a large dowel type pin on the bolt that you pulled out and there was a spring in there and a retainer clip. The firing pin runs through this dowel (there is a hole in the center) and through the spring and emerges in the bolt head. The extractor seems to be held in place with this spring. Should I have put the retainer clip in the bolt first(so it would rest on the other side of the bolt head and push against the extractor), then the spring and then insert the dowel? Or am I missing something here? The 2200 is simply a 1200, is it not?
-I took it apart again, and then tried reassembling it different-no difference. When you pull the bolt back (when everything is installed in the gun), the bolt rotates a little but then seems to get stuck when there is an empty shell. If you force the bolt back, the extractor will only pull the shell out halfway and then lets go, leaving the empty in the receiver and prevents chambering a second round. WTF:confused:
