Hello there. Just bought a lyman 66 sight off epay and mounted it on my pre 64 94.How much twist or side to side movement should it have. The sight looks good, went together fine but appears sloppy ie not very solid when locked into position. I can grab it on the right side and wiggle it back and forth abit.No I'm not using alot of pressure just my finger. It doesn't lock into place nice and secure.Slides and way look good. I heard this sight and the williams were the way to go maybe I tried the wrong one first. Thanks

Lyman

It should be tight, with a finger push forward and backward on the end of the slide giving only the slightest perception of movement. I have an old Lyman 57 on mine and while that is not top of the line, it is still tight. I have used iron sights quite extensively and they have all been tight.
I actually prefer the old Williams Fool Proof on the 94. They are very precise and solid, neat looking, but not as handy to adjust as a Lyman.

Well I guess I'll box it up and send it back to lyman and let them look at it. Well I guess its me and my 788 again this year.

I bought one of the new aluminum Lyman 66's directly from the factory outlet a few months ago. It is Junk. I had to put a 0.005" shim in the space behind the slide to get the slop out of it. I bumped it ( 8" drop while in a padded case) some time later and the windage adjustment screw tore through the flimsy bit of aluminum underneath. I sent it back for warranty, and Lyman fixed the looseness by supplying a new body, but the broken bottom of the slide they didn't fix, even though I had mentioned it in the letter I sent to the warranty dep't. I bought an old steel 66 on Ebay since then, it is strong, tight and works very well. Too bad their bean counters messed up a formerly good product. I won't ever buy another aluminum Lyman.
