I was given a win 94 30-30 a few years back. don't have any history on this gun, but it won't feed properly. it is missing the spring cover/ loading gate and screw. the shell seems to jam at an angle as it starts into the chamber. took it apart and I can't see anything wrong. would the missing cover do this? I didn't think so, but can't see anything else wrong.

If it jams up when your feeding the rounds into the gun, then it's most likely the loading gate, or, in your case, the lack of one. If it's jamming up when you cycle the action to chamber a round, it could be the lifter or the piece on the link that holds the rounds into the mag tube. The loading gate also has a piece that sticks out straight on the back; this also help guide the rounds out correctly.

There could also be other problems, like the shell latches.

Install a loading gate first, and see if that fixes the problem.

looking into it further, I need a loading gate as the rounds are getting caught on the side where it would be, if I holy them straight it works.

ALSo it has the under the carrier jam. that piece looks ok but obviously not as it is held tight so it can't be a worn pin. hear of guys welding this piece up. what do they use to weld it?

also who in mb might have a loading gate and screw? prob need the piece that holds shells in mag as well.
thx

Without a loading gate, it's hard to say if the "under the carrier jam" is from the link or the lack of a loading gate. The under carrier jam is quite common on the Post 64 models and is attributable to the soft nose on the link. The nose is some sort of "pot metal", so talk to a very good welder.
Is your rifle a Post 64? If so, I may have a loading gate but can't guarantee I have the correct screw.

Loading gate will fix your problem. Try western gun parts for your parts, have your serial number handy when you call them. If not, post a WTB on the rifle parts section. If the carrier isn't broken then it won't need to be replaced.
