Hello
Could anyone please tell me what type of front sight I need ?
There’s no dovetail in the barrel, only this treaded hole.

Also, what’s the slot cutout in the tube for?

ThanksView attachment 718290

Is the front band in the photo secured with its cross screw? There will be a groove to clear the screw. But not that big.
I assume that the hole is for a short ramp attached with only one screw.
Here is one that I reworked. The ramp is a Williams shorty.

Yes the band is secured with a screw, I had to make a notch in the tube for the screw to fit though.
The cutout is factory and is about one and half inch in front of the screw slot

It looks as if a short ramp like the one on my rifle would work. Just ignore the cut in the tube?

Some? - all? - post '64s had the front sight ramp spot welded to the barrel. I think earlier ones had the ramp brazed in place. Don't know if any used a screwed on ramp.

Well, just install a ramp and a dovetailed front sight. Be careful installing the sight. Use a pusher, not a drift and hammer, unless you can support the ramp. Easy to knock the ramp off.

This is the .32? Perhaps someone had installed a ramp.

Yes it’s a .32
So the ramp screws on? Then the sights attaches to that?
I’ll have to order a sight pusher then

It looks like your mag tube may be of a different vintage than your barrel. On the earlier carbines ( pre -1930) the barrel band was positioned farther forward. this may be the notch for the cross screw of the barrel band. There should also be a small screw hole to hold the magazine cap in place.

The cross bolt and band seem to be missing. As for the sight, it’s a ramp style, which may or may not have a hood. The sight blade is dovetailed into the ramp. If you search for post-64 front sight ramp you should find one easily enough.

You can see the band in the OP's photo. Post '64 front sight ramps were spot welded to the barrel. OP's barrel is drilled and tapped, so something like a Williams Shorty should work very nicely.
