Win 94 Front Sight Question

i recently purchased a win 94 made in 1958 which the front sight has came off the barrel. seemed to be soldered on. shouldnt this sight be dovetailed in place or is it common for pre 1961 win 94s to have the front sight soldered on?

just wondering becuase it seems a cheap way of doing things, maybe the barrel is off newer rifle or something.

any info on this would be greatly appreciated as i feel i have been swindled into purchasing a non all matching pre 61 rifle.

I believe that you are talking about pre-64 model 94 s. The front sights were silver soldered onto the barrel as it was so time consuming to forge the sights out of the same tube as the barrel. A remedy has been mentioned but a gunsmith or machine shop should be able to replace it to its original position.
