I have the opportunity to purchase a Winchester '94 "Litttle Big Horn" Commemorative Edition (gold plate, etc.). It has never been fired and comes with the original box of 44-40. However it does not have the box for the gun. Just wondering what a fair price might be?

Thanks for the input!

Without the box and paperwork, the gun is merely a shooter and the 44-40 is not in the same class for hunting as the 30-30.To me that relegates this gun to a plinker and to me that drops the price to around $300.Of course that is only the price that I would be willing to pay. Other people might be willing to pay considerably more.

I had the same gun with the box and ammo. Managed to get $500 for it. Nobody seemed to like the gold and nobody seems to collect them. I had an RCMP one as well. The interesting thing about the LBH was it was sold by Winchester Canada.

The interesting thing is .... at the battle of the "Little Bighorn" Custer was outgunned by the Indians, the Indians had all the
lever action rifles, and Custer had inferior rifles and handguns.

And that's why it's a Little Big Horn commemorative... ;)

Part of the problem with some of the commemoratives is that they didn't make the '92 any more so they just used a '94 which was in production.Everyone knows that the 44/40 was never chambered(originally) in the '94. Had this chambering been in a '92 the value would be much higher!!

Little Bighorn

I have a used Little Bighorn in 44-40 and I haven't shot it, but I wanted a companion piece to go with my 44-40 Uberti Henry with a single digit serial number.

I picked a used Little Bighorn up for $350 but there isn't any box or papers. I would think for a new in the box Little Bighorn $550 would be a reasonable price. If you are going to shoot it, buy a used one for $300 to $400. There are approximately 11,000 manufactured for the Canadain Market, and some are going to the US collectors. I think the Little Bighorn will go up in price because of the caliber and what it represents. Like one of the other members said if it would have been in a 92 it would be worth more.

The 44-40 can be used for deer, even black bear, at close range, and picking your shots.
It has of course been used for everything including moose and buffalo in years past, but it's not fair to the animal to do so IMO.
Cool for target shooting, bang.... plop youcan hear the rounds go home at 100 yards. Near zero recoil, and a lot of fun. Not terribly accurate, but, acceptable for close work.

Am I the only one who thinks the Win 94 commemoratives are as useless as tits on a bull? They made so g-d many of them that they aren;t close to rare and are usually gaudy with brass tacks in the wood, gold plated receivers, crappy engraving, etc.

Give me a plain old pre-64 carbine any day of the week over those ugly post-64 commemoratives.

I have 2 little big horns and 2 cheyennes. Ony one has been fired.

It's fun to plink with, and makes a nice wall hanger.

Good for game like deer up to about 50-75 yards.....other than that, you may as well throw basballs at the game!

I have a 66 commemorative with octagon barrell (26") it shoots 1 1/4" groups with a lyman peep sight, I don't find it useless at all:)

No-one's saying the post-64 commemorative rifles don't work... only that they are FUGLY and not worth any premium IMHO.

I wouldn't say fugly...I have had my 1966 94 next to a pre 64 and couldn't tell the difference...besides the fact I added a sling to mine. :D

Also intenally I noticed that the little loading ramp on the pre 64 was more solid looking, but no biggy.
