Win 94 rear sight Question.

I just added a Williams aperture sight to my winny (it's so awesome), and I had to take my rear sight off, but I'm left with this very sharp dovetail slot in the barrel, which I know is going to eat me, and any gear it touches sooner or later.

Has anyone ever made a slip in rubber or plastic dovetail cover for these situations?

Also any suggestions, tips or ideas, that won't involve a dremel/re-bluing.
 
I make my own. Very easy.
Some cold rolled from Home Depot. Rough it out with a hack saw. Make it long so you have something to hold and work with. Add the dovetail angles with a file. Just eyeball the angles, it'll work out - always has for me. Thin it with a file.
I find I always end up just a little loose so I cold forge it a bit thinner, spreads the width.
Slide it into the barrel till it's tight, mark both edges where it needs to be fitted to the barrel width and cut it off. Shape it with a file, then cold blue it.
Only takes a hour or two. Specially useful on European rifles with non 3/8 dovetails. Nice custom thickness and width.

any good gunsmith shop will have a "slot blank" in stock, or you can order them from gunsmith supply companies like Brownell's. Even bigger Canadian retailers like SIR stock them. About $5.

No seriously....electrical tape looks better!!!

OK double seriously....I use an old rear site & make a double dovetail out of it.

I just put on a williams apature sight on my 94 and the gun shop I bought it from gave me a slot blank to put in. not expensive.
