Win ballistic silvertips

It's the same as any other plastic tipped ammo. The Winchester Supreme line uses Nosler ballistic tip bullets they've moly coated.

I used them last deer hunting season with my 308 Ruger and they were very accurate. I pulled the trigger and the bullet went right where it was supposed to go and I was eating deer sausage for supper tonight. :D

Wrong on both counts.First, the ballistic silvertip is lubalox coated, not moly coated.Secondly there are huge differences in plastic tipped bullets. There are plain unbonded cup and core bullets like the ballistic tip and sst. There are also bonded cup and core bullets like the the accubond and interbond. There is the new monometal bullet by nosler .There is also the barnes mrx that is copper with a tungsten core. All of these bullets have plastic tips, but they certainly are not all the same.

Yes, and they are all overpriced and equally unnecessary, plastic tipped, tungsten cored, MRX, bonded monometal, brother what next.......they're just the same old deer out there!! All this crap is just to "hunt the hunter", as people, hunters included, fall for slick marketing, and sponsored magazine articles.

Whats your guys's take on the Winchester Ballistic silver tips (the supreme ones)?

Depends on the application, range, and cartridge.

But I won't touch the things for anything but paper after I had one hit the back of a deer's head from 50ish yards and not exit from a .270 WSM.

3 and a bit inches of penetration isn't what I'm looking for in a big game load.

I shoot them out of my 22-250 because I got a super deal on a case of them at the gun show a couple of years back. Very accurate. But I wouldn't choose them for a big game hunting rig.

When a hunting partner showed up for our muledeer hunt with 165 grain Ballistic Silvertips in his .300 Win Mag I was all concerned about possible penetration problems. Of course, then he had to go and take a running Texas heart shot at close range and the buck just skidded on it's chin and died with a broken hip, one lung and it's heart gone. Damn ballistically ignorant deer.
