Hi,

I bought a new 1300 Defender with the Speed Pump rotating bolt last week and just got around to taking it apart as per the manual, cleaning, lubing and reassembling.
I noticed that when the action is closed, forearm fully forward, there is about a 1/4" of play rearward which allows the bolt carrier to slide back, also about a 1/4". The bolt appears to remain locked to the barrel, though. I hope I'm explaining this clearly.....
Is this normal or did I reassemble it wrong? This is my first pump-gun so it's a little alien to me.

Thanks

Thanks a bunch for the help. It was one of those things where you go, " Hey, was that like that before I took it apart?" :) I wanted to make sure before I take it out tomorrow.
All the the best, Steve

Edited to add:

I just took a look at it, and yeah it's more like 1/8" of play.

That 1/4" or so is a mechanical safety incorporated into the design which is quite common with alot of firearms, meaning that when you fire the round and attempt to work(pump) the action/slide the 1/4" play allows the gas pressures to drop to a safe level so as not to unlock the action too early and injure the shooter or anyone nearby.
I have the model 1300 it was my 1st gun (1988) and still have it and still love it!
