2 things, first what are your opinions of the defender? do they work when needed. Second where & how much for a pistol grip to go with the full stock. Anything else I should know. Thanks to thouse in the know:) AJ

pretty much any of the classic pump shotgun designs like the Remington 870, Winchester 1200/1300, Mossberg 500, Ithaca 37, etc can be counted on to be reliable and durable.

if you are looking for a tactical style shotgun you would be better served with an 870, however, since there are far more aftermarket accessories available for it than anything else.

check out Can-Am's Dominion Arms Grizzly line. they are 870 clones that fit almost all 870 parts, and are a steal at ~$300 incl. shipping. i picked up a 12.5" barreled one from him at Christmas, it came with a pistol grip in addition to a regular stock, and id go so far as to say that it is actually more sturdily built than the current Remington 870 Express line.

and no, i dont work for Can-Am :)
im just happy with my Grizzly.

I had a bad experiance with the Win 1300. Was blasting gophers with one several years ago and when I went to pump the action, the thing seized. No matter, was using cheap ammo and blamed it on that and with a hard pump it shucked out the shell. I went to chamber another and the friggin pump handle and action rods came right off the bolt and off of the gun!

In all fairness, many have been more than happy with the Win 1300 but I will never buy one

I have owned and used a Model 1300 for over 10 years. I practiced with it until I became proficient. No issues, just works dependably.

I think MBP (manbearpig) said it well, in that there are a number of good shotguns out there that will serve a man well. If I was to do it all over again I would probably buy the Remington or the Mossberg mainly because they are still in production and parts and accessories are more readily available.

Just so you know, if you use the pistol grip that come with the Grizzly, it might put it in the Restricted class. The law say no but the CFC say yes.
