Win M-22 ammo

All depends what gun is eating it. I have had good results feeding it to semi autos. Multiple squires, pps and 10/22 seem to like it. Accuracy from a bolt is "acceptable" I was sceptical at first but much better quality than some of the other Winchester bulk 22 ammo

This has been my experience also, however that being said I have found Federal Champion 525 blue box stuff way more consistent and accurate than any Winchester ammo. Federals work great in the 10/22 and give 1/2" groups out of My Rem 541-S. If I was going to use any Winchester ammo I would use the M-22.

2-3 yrs ago , when .22 ammo. was scarce & expensive I found the M-22 , for sale @ $29. / brick & bought about 10 cases (50,000. rnds. )
Many shot @ club events & lots by me. I found about 1-2 misfires / 100 . Different guns ( firing pins) would make this go up or down .

M22 is perfectly fine for plinking. For the relatively small increase in price, I now just stick to CCI products. The rate of failure to fire or failure to extract has dropped to virtually zero while accuracy is usually significantly better. Goodbye Federal, Winchester and Remington 22LR products.

I found it much dirtier than federal black pack ammo, which some people claim is repackaged mini mags. It also fails to extract probably %30 of the time from my Savage MkII, while federal has had zero failure to extract

I've had a different experience with my mark ii.
Tried a mag with it, and had a ftf that also became a fte at the bottom of a 5 round mag.

Took the gun home, gave the bolt a solid clean and the next time out think I had 1? Dud in around 100 plus rounds. Shot well. Next time I'm going to try it in my pistol and see how it goes (thing eats 36 grain federal blue box and cci mini mags, so will see how the 40 grain works)

As for the black pack, haven't shot it yet but the ammo is identical to the 36 grain mini mags. Bullet shape, along with fit and finish are way better then the standard blue box

Kind of where I'm at too. My ammo lock-up is a very CCI-centric space. SV,LR/HP, CB Long, Quiet-22, Quiet-22 segmented, loads of Blazer for western gophers, etc. I know there are some shorts, some mini mags and stingers in hte mix too, but no hope for those. lol One small corner of the lock-up has the snazzier stuff I feed my Anschutz, like SK Standard, SK Rifle match (it's current favorite) and a few other Eley offerings I've yet to test. There is one, lonely box of Winchester white box/bulk crap I only picked-up to try in my new 452. Wouldn't have bothered, but when I was load testing my 452 Varmint back in the day, it was the first gun I'd ever shot that didn't hate the stuff. (mostly under 3/4" @ 50 yards) Not great, but way better than it shot in any other gun I've owned.

No M-22, and not much experimenting with 22LR ammo planned in the near future. I mean...I try everything new I can get my hands on (Hornady, and Browning back in the fall) and yeah...there is a reason I keep turning to CCI.

I have M-22. I have experienced M-22 shells that wouldn’t allow the bolt to close entirely. This has happened on a 10/22, Mkiii 22/45, and an old J Stevens bolt gun. On the semi autos a live round would get stuck in the chamber and require a cleaning rod to remove. The Stevens bolt gun would always fire and extract but a few times I had gas escaping around the bolt face which was unusual.

Was out shooting yesterday with a Rem. 541-S (bolt) and Ruger SR-22 (semi-auto). Federals worked perfectly in both. Win M-22 worked in the Ruger but were difficult to chamber in the Rem. and about every 3rd one would not extract, had to pop them out with a cleaning rod. Needless to say I will not be buying Win ammo in the future.

I've shot a lot of Winchester ammo over the last 30 years.
There have been too many duds & fte's for me.
Their are other brands like CCI Standard, Mini Mag & Blazer that work better.
I have also had some luck with Federal & American Eagle.
My favorite affordable ammo is CCI Standard Velocity.
I wish I had access to more varieties of standard velocity ammo in my area.
The gentleman running the gun counter at my local Kanadian Tire is going to bring in some Aguila Std. for me to try.

As others have said it depends on the gun. I have run it recently in my FV SR, 10/22 and Smith and Wesson SW22 Victory without issue. I have also run it in my Sig 1911-22 with minor issue. It just isn't as hot as most other 22lr. In that same gun I have run other bulks without issues.

Winchester has had quality control issues with their M22 ammo in the past. There was a recall a few years back. Before I found out about the recall I bought two 1000 round packs. I had nothing but problems with that ammo. Every ten round mag or two I had a fail to fire. I contacted Winchester and they blamed the guns I was using. At that time I was running it through a Marlin 795, an old bolt action Remington 512 Sportmaster (which has never had a single malfunction ever outside of that M22) and a brand new Ruger 10/22 that saw less than 500 rounds of bulk Federal 525 (all of which ran flawlessly as well). Winchester then told me to send it to their Canadian contact but never once mentioned reimbursing or replacing the ammo. Because of this experience I went about 4 years without buying it. Bought a bunch last summer from a sale at Bass Pro and have had better experiences this time around.

I still prefer the Federal 525 blue boxes for bulk. I have found it more consistent and have run much more of it than the M22s.

So far, it runs okay in my Remington 597. I've only fired about 100 rounds of it though.

UPDATE: Ran about 130 rounds through a RPRimfire, and no problems. Seemed to group okay as well.

I bought a bunch of it and in the first 20 rounds in my S&W41 had 6 FTFs. I put it back in the cabinet. Not happy. Will try in my Cooey 60 but wouldn't rely on it for competition shoots.

Call me paranoid, but I won't run any high velocity in my Smith model 41. I feel it is too hard on the pistol.

No FTF in 3 bricks so far, mostly out of a Marlin XT 22. No issues out of the 795 but the 555’s(on sale) grouped better so we’re running that for now. Almost through a brick of that with the 795. I love that little rifle, so far. My sons first autoloader, picked it up last weekend.
