Well my hopes of finding a BRNO 602 in 375 H&H are fading faster that Paul Martin's hopes for another Lieberal government.

I am considering a new Winchester model 70 CRF, stainless with a synthetic stock.

I realize that the iron sights on this rifle are vastly inferior to the BRNO/CZ express sights but the plan would be to install a Williams receiver sight and use that as a ghost ring.

Any opinions regarding the current quality of M70's versus the old 602 or a new CZ550?

There is a website, I'll try to find it, from Africa that tested and ranked new rifles for use on dangerous game. The Brno was tops.

The CZ 550 just reeks of 'class' nice lines....with the definite 'african' look and they are 1060 + - from wholesale sports.

I reallly like my 602 375 H&H.

The sights are great, even though I mostly use a scope.

Too bad Ruger only chambers the 375 H&H in thier Super Safari or whatever it's called (shiny wood stock) and the #1's.

A stianless Ruger in 375 H&H with good sights would be damn sweet.;)

You're thinking M77 Magnum, Clarke?

I'd have gone with the CZ if I hadn't just decided that I wanted a Ruger. I still like the BRNO, probably more than the Ruger, but I wanted to give the Ruger a shot (at twice the price, you had better really want the Ruger).

Whilst reading the 'african-hunter' I could just picture some dry half corked englishman with his weathered khakis and a glass of port, revelling in hearing his own voice as he dished out his sentiments; but the proof is in the pudding from a man who know doubt knows his #### and what works and what doesnt and the price that some men have obvioulsy paid for trying to be in 'vogue'

+ 1 for the CZ/BRNO

I'm thinking that if Ruger made a stianless rilfe, with express sights like on the Brno, I' like it.

I like Ruger M77 rifles, but the wood doens't do anything for me, nor does the barrel rib.

The Ruger is also expensive, and I suppose you are paying something for the

** Premium grade Circassian Walnut stock with live-rubber recoil pad and metal grip cap

Which is not somehitng I'd want on a rifle that was going to get thrashed around on salt water grizzly hunts!:D :p

If I could change 2 things on the Brno it would be the single set trigger, which is good for th erange, but not for my uses in the field, and I hate the safety.

One day I may bet around to changing the safety out, anow if I can just get a regular damn trigger!!

If you have not already....you should read the article that 1899 was kind enough to attach for this thread.....scroll down to the bottom of the article and there are more articles that are interesting.....If I recall the Rugers would not eject the shell (spent) If one was in a big big hurry in the larger calibres,

My only real complaint with the 602 is the shape of the stock. The 550, which I haven't shot, seems to be a much better design with respect to felt recoil.

I bought a New CZ 550 Lux last summer, the more I shoot it the more I like it.Nice trigger fit and finish is very nice, and it shoots like a bench rifle.

My 602 has been somewhat modified from the rifle which left the factory, however it embodies the 3 traits I was searching for: speed, power, and accuracy. It is very fast to bring to action, it has adequate power for any land animal on the planet, and when loaded with TSX bullets it shoots into a single hole at 100 yards.

IMO they are both good rifles, i've had both.

The M70 IMO is a more suitable BC hunting rifle. It is difficult to get a 602 down near as trim as an M70.

The SS M70 has a better safety (locks the striker back), is much smaller through the belly, and is corrosion resistant.

For the $$ difference, you can get the M70 bedded, get proper NECG sights, get it bobbed to 22" and have a really good BC bear gun.

Thad Scott, purveyor of over-priced (for Canadians anyways) fine arms.:D

I've seen 602's in the last few months for between $750 and $900. That's Canadian dollars, in Canada.
