Anyone own one of these. What do you think? I wanna get one. What are your guys opinions on this rifle? Thanks!

Dave.

I don't own one but my buddy Gary has a pre 64 featherweight in .280... it is an incredibly accurate rifle. I think it is one of the few rifles made that truly lives up to the name "Classic"!

I recently got one from another Gunnutz member. The rifle is very trim, appears well very built and is easy to handle. It's in 30-06, which allows a very broad selection of bullet weights for whatever game might be hunted with it. I had expected more recoil, but with IMR 4064 it's been a very pleasant surprise (recoil just hasn't been an issue).

The controlled feed is really nice (it's basically a Mauser, without the extra weight normally associated with sporterized Mausers). I like the three-position safety, too.

I'd say it's a classic rifle in a classic caliber. :)

Well I just ordered a new 6.5x55 from wholesale. It seemed to go through. So I assume they have one in stock. Never ordered on line from them before. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave.

classic

My son had one and it is one of my favorite factory rifles, he sold his as it kicked to much for him when he was 14, it was a 30-06. Great rifles, I own a 270WSM in a featherweight and it shoots excellent groups (.615) 3 shot, for a light contour barrel from factory.

I have had two of the Winchester Featherweights and didn't really appreciate what I had at the time. I really wish I hadn't sold either of of them:(

I have a classic featherweight in .308--factory stainless barrel and action in Walnut stock. It is an excellent handling rifle. I also have a "push feed" M-70 Featherweight in 7 x 57 (custom 24" barrel) which I will never sell.

Is it a post 64 Classic with the Claw Extractor as it can not be a pre 63. The 280 was never catalogued by Winchester in pre 64. The only reported Non-standard Chamberings was the 280 Ross? If it is a 280 Ross have your friend call Gary me

I will bet you that they have no Winchester Mod 70's in stock. I ordered a Supergrade in 30-06 through the Internet. I was phoned later and told they had sold out. I asked about three or fourt other Wins and they were also sold out.

This was months ago, and the Web page has not changed. You can see a whole line of Mod 70's advertised that do not exist.

That says a lot about a company, in that they are either too lazy or incompetant to update a Webpage.

I called looking for a couple of 70's a couple months ago, and was told they only had a couple of shadow models left chainwide...

I agree. Mine's in a Bansnser Hi-Tech Stock with a Bushnell Elite 1.5-6x36mm.

Mine currently wears a VXIII in 2.5-8X36, and I'm ordering a gloss model in the same configuration to match the beautiful blueing on this rifle. I also have a set of Conetrol rings/bases for it, but when I find the Supergrade 338 I'm looking for, those will go on that rifle.

Love my Winnie!

I bought one of these last summer to use for Moose and Deer. Got the 300 Winchester Short Magnum version. I absolutely love this rifle. I would highly recommend this rifle to anyone who likes to shoot. It has a nice feel, moderately low recoil desite the WSM, and with nice glass on it, it makes a great hunter!
