Win model 71 ........ Winchester 200gr Silvertips on black bear........?

Barnes still make the originals for 30-30/ 303 savage in 190 grain, 348 in 220 and 250 grain, 375 and 377 in 255 grain and in 458 caliber in 300 and 400 grain. Not always easy to find but they are out there.

If you have a .348, please consider emailing Speer asking them to make a 200-220 grain hotcore for the .348. The old 180 grain was good but I like the standard 200 grain weight and have no use for the 250 grain bullets. It would be nice is Speer or Hornady would at least occasionally make a run of .348 bullets.

I emailed Hornady a while back. They responded but were vague and it sounded like there wont be any 348 component bullets being made any time soon. I will try Speer. I would love to see a good source of 348 bullets. I likely have enough for my lifetime but I would buy another 500 at least, for the next generation.

Going on black bear hunt June 15th. Want to use my original Win 71 and 200gr Silvertips. I have used the Silvertips on deer and they tend to blow up at short range(-100ft). Anyone use them on black bear ?
I've never had a 348 silvertip "blow up" as you say. In fact I found the opposite that they do not expand much at all. Last deer I shot with mine had an exit hole the size of my thumbnail.
