win ranger .40, 155gr HP

Its the standard 155gr. bullet, not the Talon bullet (not Ranger-T series). Its the LE version of the regular stock 155gr. bullet going 1200fps. Nothing exciting. The T-series loads with the sharp talons are only in the 165gr and 180gr loadings in .40S&W.

Basically its a hyped up, overpriced version, fancy packaged version of a regular 155gr. bullet only available to LE. Nothing in the bullet itself separtes it from the standard 155gr. loads available from Winchester, ballistically identical to the 155gr. Silvertip.

My box says Ranger LE ammunition. is this any different than what you described, it cost me $20. for 50 rounds.

No, same as I described. The only loads in Winchesters Ranger .40S&W line with the sharp talons (T-series) are the 165gr. (RA40TA) and the 180gr. (RA40T) loads. The box you picked up I am assuming is marked as product number RA40155HP. Its a generic hollowpoint, good for defensive use but none of the advanced sump hollow point, talon point, reverse taper jacket designs are evident in this load. Its basically a practice load only available to LE to replicate the Win 155gr. Silvertip, ballistically its almost identical. The newer bonded rounds in .40S&W are also T-series, but again only available in 165gr. and 180gr. I am not aware of a single department that authorizes the use of this load as a duty load, as the T-series loads greatly out perform it, especially after any type of barrier situation. The 180gr. load has the largest following, followed by the 165gr., the 155gr load (RA40155JHP) is basically used as range training as Winchester markets it as a cheaper alternative load because the demand for duty ammo is almost exclusively for T-series ammo.

All Winchester Ranger ammo that is T-series will have the letter codes T in the product codes, denoting its T-series, if the number code in your Winchester Ranger ammo doesn't have a T in it, it ain't the real thing.

$20 for 50 is a good price for this ammo, its better ammo than WWB and is reliable and produced to tight QC standards. As with regular Win Ranger ammo, it should be primer sealed and sealed at the case mouth. Use it and feel confident.

There's a pile of info on these loads on Glocktalk.com, and check out Winchesters Law Enforcement catalogue.
