I just picked up a Win94 in 44mag. Now I got to figure out what to do with it as far as reloads. I'll be checking my books when I get home, and blow the dust off my 44 dies, but thought I'd tap the CGN brain trust for starting points.

I want cheap plinking rounds, so cast would be good if the Win94 likes cast. I also plan to hunt deer and maybe black bear with it so a suitable cast or jacketed load would be nice.

I don't have it in hand yet but it does have the longer barrel if that matters.

Thanks all. Kenny

What have you got in the tickle trunk for powder?
I use 7.5gr of Green Dot under 240gr cast RN for plinkin with my Marlin...mainly because I have an ample supply of GD and use it in my 44Spl loads too.

I use 5.5 grains of Titegroup with a 240 grain cast SWC for my reduced .44 Magnum load.

Thanks for the info so far. I'll give the titegroup a try but something with less snap would be good as well. I have a marlin GG and shoot exclusively cast so its not new to me. Shooting 44 mag is new though.

I'd like to go with cast for plinking. Anyone use 240 or 300 cast (looking at bulletbarn) for hunting big game? What should I look at for hunting deer and bear - jacketed soft point, hollow point, barnes, cast? I'm still researching the options and then seeing what I can actually get my hands on. I assume I am looking at 100 yards for big game regardless of what bullet I choose?
