I read a good review on the SXP Defender offered by Winchester just now.

I'm curious to see what anybody on here who owns one would have to say about it. At the moment I am at a tossup between one of these and a Mossberg 500 (I think it is called the Persuader) which is in the same general price range.

I want to add an inexpensive pump gun to my lineup that cycles reliably, and goes bang when I want it to.

The sxp is a great shotgun! My friend has one. Never fails to go boom. It's never been cleaned. Still runs flawless after thousands of rounds!!

I've got a marine defender, runs great with anything I've put through it. Super smooth, the action will almost cycle itself far enough to eject the spent shell on its own. I imagine with some more time to wear in a and a good cleaning it would spit hulls out by itself.

Had a 1300 Defender, which was awesome - regret selling it to this day. Both I and my brother have SXPs - I have an extreme defender, he has the regular defender. I love mine, and he seems to love his... great guns, in my opinion.

Get a SXP defender then. It's great and for $300, far better than a 870 express or Mossberg 500 (As long as you don't plan to add a dozen accessories which are rarely available for the Winchester).

I have the extreme defender with the extra rails ati stock pistol grip.I also have a maverick 88.The defender is a very underrated shotgun. It cycle s much smoother than my maverick. I bought my NIB extreme defender for $370 shipped from a private seller, was too good a deal to pass up.The maverick is just that a $250 gun.I shot about 40 rounds of the Chinese slugs and 00 buck yesterday with the defender, not one issue just a tender shoulder . Pretty accurate with ghost ring sight I was hitting milk jugs at 50 yds free standing with slugs.

I wouldn't go that far. All 3 are pretty well on par at that price. Biggest downfall for the Winchester is that there are almost no accessories that fit, unlike the 870 & 500 who have numerous. Buy the configuration you like the best if you don't care about accessories.

I have the SXP Marine Defender and I think it's a great gun. I opted for the marine model as it is threaded to accept the invector plus choke tubes. Not that a 18" barrel is super versatile but it's good to have options.

EDIT: The "plain black" SXP Defender does not accept choke tubes, and is cylinder bore.

despite not having a lot of after market products for this shotgun. ive put everything from slugs to birdshot down the pipe. high brass and low brass. with no issues of cycling. i love that it cycles its self. its to a point where it ejects the round on its own.
