I've recently had gifted to me a Winchester Model 101 Lightweight XTR 12 gauge o/u shotgun from my father.

I require another 1" length of pull, so plan to buy and fit a Pachmyer pad. Has anyone got any good advice from their experience carrying out this before?

Also the ivory mid sight is broken off, so I want to replace it. It looks to be just glued in place from what I can see. I plan to purchase a replacement online and then that will hopefully give me a good indication the size and depth I need to drill to remove the old remains from the top rib and leave a hole to fit the replacement.
Is that a reasonable assumption/plan?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Yup, mid bead is prolly glued in or a two part expoxy was used to keep it in its place.
There are small drill bits to take care of the old broken bits and I do not know the size off the top of my head.
The recoil pad will take some finesse ...do you know of a shoe repair guy with a grinder?
Again , some finesse and some painters tape to protect the wood when it is being ground to fit or you can try it this way...

That's a nice shotgun you have there, may want to consider a professional to have the work done. Would not want to mark up the wood stock or ding up the rib and loss some value of a fine gun. But if you decide to do it yourself I would do a lot of research in the work you are going to do, and take your time.
