Winchester 101 vs Weatherby Orion

As I am now looking to perhaps add an O/U to the wish list (on a budget as have no misconception of becoming a pro) these 2 models have read their heads at me in the low $1k range. I think I have seen enough here to avoid the Savage Stevens, Stoeger Condor, and other cheap O/U's so at least I am learning!!!

Any advice is appreciated as always.

The Winchester would be my choice of the 2. The Orion I is a new turkish model, Weatherby has had a real good track record with their manufacturer there, however the Orion I is yet to prove itself. The original Orion isn't the same gun, it was made by SKB, the Orion I is getting good reviews. The Winchester already has proven itself. I'm not saying Turkey can't build a good O/U, I know because I have one.
 
The 101 Ultimate Field is on sale at BP for $1299 - think I need one!!! And maybe an SX3 on for $1149.....

Anyone know the difference between the BP only ULTIMATE FIELd and the normal higher priced field and other 101 models???

Lastly - CZ Redheads seem to get fairly good reviews - many real experiences here????

As a side note - Was at sail looking to see these guns that they didn't have and buddy told me that when all these places replenish stock in new year (they have some kind of quota) the pricing is going to go up 15% or more due to the dollar - he suggested buy as much as you can this year (not in a buy from him way).

Can't comment much on the CZ(Huglu), the Weatherbys are made by ATA, I have an Akkar Churchill 206, these 3 represent some of the better manufacturers over there. I have one member at my club who shoots a CZ Mallard, not sure on exact round count but I do know it's over 5000 rounds, never heard him complain about it.
 
I ended up buying the Winchester 101 from Bass Pro. The Ultimate field is the same as the regular field model but it is a Bass Pro exclusive with different engravings and I think oiled finish wood. That is a great price and I looked around and you can't really find them anywhere. (I bought the 2nd last one in the Calgary store, only the display remains). My hunting partner has the older 101 and it has really impressed me, the newer ones are supposed to be better so we will see. After all, Winchester is now owned by Browning and they feature a lot of the same features as Browning shotguns such as Baskbored technology and invector plus chokes, I'm optimistic the Browning quality is there too...

I also have the CZ Redhead 12g, great shotgun, not one issue with it so far. My hunting partner with the 101 is now actually looking for the CZ in 20g after seeing mine lol.

I'm at a point right now where I have 2 O/U that serve the same purpose so one will have to go up for sale soon but it's a tough choice.
 
I am looking for an O/U field gun for next season and the 101 looks pretty good especially that price. I am also thinking a bout the Franchi instinct L. Looking forward to hearing how it shoots
 
I've been eyeing the new 101 as well. New design, lower profile receiver, made in Belgium by Browning/FN.
Let us know how you like it in the field.

Well pulled the trigger (pun intended) on the 101 and liked it a lot (took a while to get used to it) and liked it a lot. Swing was nice and it shouldered well and was a hit with my friends - one guy went 22 with it the first time shooting it and used the full barrel by accident!!!
Think I will use the auto as a spare and try going full time on trap and skeet with it for a while. Really can't beat it for the price I think and it shot better when we used it against guys with guns 3x and 4x the price and we don't shoot near as often as they do!!!
 
I, too, would take the Winchester 101. Actually, that's what I have used (pigeon grade) for skeet and sporting for decades... thousands of rounds, no problems.

The new Fn 101 is a great gun. I have the "select energy" labelled one with the funky checkering. Only issue for me is it pierced cheddite primers in the lower barrel, but I don't use those anymore so it isn't a problem. It is a very well built gun...
 
The winchester 101 is a great gun and i would recomend it anyday. They dont fit me very well so i have never owned one but shoot with many people that use them. Ive seen some with over 100,000 rounds and no problems.
