It would wound a red squirrel. A fox/black squirrel has to thick of a hide for the #12 shot. I shot a mangy cat off the hood of my truck at 15 yards with the cci blue cap stuff. Didn't even mark the windshield all I got was a rweeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnn and claw sractches on the hood. Cci makes a 49gr super quiet round that works great.
