I was given an inoperable Winchester 1200 today. It now operates, i took out a lot of crud and rust.
Has it`s issues, broken extractor, missing fore end wood and a slightly “S” shaped barrel.

It still needs a good going over, but are these things worth fixing?
I`m not sure the barrel can be saved unless its cut back, but i do need a bird gun, have two short 12 ga already.
If it is worth fixing, do other model Winchester barrels fit?
I`m not a real shotgun guy, but i will take free guns.
 
lots of them around, i understand free, but anything you replace on that thing won't be worth it.
sounds like it's in rough shape.

Yes. Take the barrel off. Turn gun upside down. Take trigger assembly out by punching out the two pins. There should be a slotted screw on the bottom of the bolt. Remove it and pull it out all the way. Careful. Bottom bolt plate holds everything together. Also put cap back on magazine. Not unusual for the spring retainer to come loose and shoot across the room, spring and all
 
I got everything apart except the trigger group and the bolt out of the carrier. Firing pin and all that i got out. Will not touch the trigger group at this point, it works, will soak it with more WD40 to loosen up the crud thats left. I don`t know if the bolt comes out of the actual bolt carrier, also need to take the extractor stump out. Spring retainer was stuck pretty good, as was the follower. That will need a brush on a drill to get that clean. Barrel is toast past the 16-17 inch point
It`s reassembled now and put away. When i get around to it i`ll get back at it and will be keeping an eye on the EE for the required parts, might even put an add in
 
If you can find the parts for less than a buying a good one its worth it. They are some of the best shotguns around. Much prefer them to the 2 popular brands.

I have been having the urge to buy a second slightly different one because I like them so much
 
The American public wanted cheap. Winchester cheap was less successful than Remington stamped cheap shotgun.
The market still is hungry for cheap.
How else can you explain rough Chinese junk guns selling, or hit and miss quality from Turkey.
There is something wrong with new guns being a "fixer upper".
 
I had one and a buddy has one that both let the two shells in the mag tube loose on firing the one chambered causing a double feed jam.Was sent back to Colburg/Winchester twice and still did the same thing.A good two shot pump but a 3 shot jamo-matic.Don't miss it a bit.
 
Sounds like one of those boating accident guns got recovered and was given to you. I'm not sure what to make of the "S shaped barrel" but if a person with experience says it might be salvagable, I guess it would be a fun hobby rescue item but not a for-profit or personal money saving venture.
