I purchased this nice looking semi a few years ago when I knew nothing about guns. The gentleman i purchased it from said it worked great without any issues. So...... I had a good look at it cleaned the barrels it came with and took it out. First shot was great but I couldn't Take another because it was jammed. I tried light loads to buckshot to slugs and or still wouldn't cycle the 2nd shell. When I turned the gun over I tired looking looking for anything obvious but the only thing odd was a tiny bit of epoxy on the one side of the receiver, along with what looks to be some filing of the metal. I am no gunsmith but am very mechanically inclined with tools too boot. From my perspective it looks like the spring on the shell lifter is weak and not lifting the shell high/hard enough. Either way if someone wouldn't mind throwing their 2 cents worth in that would be great..and thanks.

The 1400's did not have a good reputation when I was repairing them in the 70's. Your biggest problem today will be getting parts for an obsolete gun. I would suggest you contact the gentleman you bought it from and ask for a refund except that purchase was years ago?

I take it the gun ejects the fired round but does not feed the second round? Hard to diagnose but it sounds like the gun is dirty. The 20 gauge 1400's sometimes did not run that great on real light 20 gauge loads. What was the shot weight and velocity of the rounds fired? I would start with a good cleaning and shoot some 1 oz loads. The spring on the carrier (shell lifter) only returns the carrier down. There is a chance the action spring is installed backwards after a prior cleaning. This causes a lot of issues.
