i purchased a Winchester 1400 not working to fix up. i looked online at schematics and looks like there is an oring in the gas system. mine did not have this, threw one in on top of the piston and worked 100% is this how its supposed to be? looked at a couple videos of disassembles and didnt see one so im wondering whats supposed to be there? just an oring doesn't seem like it would last.

The 1400 has no "O" rings in the gas system. The part you see in the schematic is likely a fore end spacer to keep the fore end tight after wear. The biggest thing that stops 1400 models is installing the action spring backwards.

Oring is gone and spring is in the right way and it runs.

Only thing is sometimes when its picking up another round from the mag tube it will spit out the last one In there. Anyone have this happen? Didn't have a chance to look but since the post is here thought I'd ask

I puttered with one of these Winchester semis a few years ago.
If it's the same model, be sure the holes inside the barrel mag tube ring
on the bottom of the barrel are clear.
Two I believe if my memory hasn't failed me.

Holes are clear, runs pretty smooth now ither than spitting the third round onto the ground after firing the first shot and clambering the second. Havent been able to look into it but I'm thinking there might be some retainer spring or the retainer itself loose or not enough spring tension

There is an o-ring inside the forend cap, you can see it through the little slots...
