Any changes from pre and post '64 but stocks for 1894's?

I have been asked to look for one for a friend, he does no have the serial number yet, and I figure someone around here would know.

Just trying to get a jump on the project, and trying to avoid buying a 'wrong' part.

Thanks!

Grrr, I had a web site that likely would answer that question.
Suppliers of buttt stocks .
Maybe Brownells might have the info for you?
You know replacement stocks and if that info answers the question then the search for a repurposed one might be the way to go.
Again, not the yes or no answer but, at least a direction.

Thanks! That's what I needed to know, for now.

I'll hold off seeking one out until I can get the serial number/date of manufacture.

Thanks. Will do in a couple days when I have the info I need.

Actually a stock from a newer 94 (4.9 mill ser. #) is usable on a very early 94 ( 24,### poss. circa. 1895 ).

Yesterday I had the stock off both guns, and remembering this thread slid the newer stock on the older gun, and as Tiriaq says they are different in the upper tang/ hammer boss area but it is a "usable solution". The hammer boss area on the newer stock is milled flat all the way across to accommodate the wider hammer boss of the new gun but other than that the inletting for the tang "tails" top & bottom and main spring spaces are identical...it slide right on & the tang bolt hole lined up perfectly.

The older stock, for fit & finish to the narrower hammer boss, has a ridge left on both sides that , with a couple strokes of a rasp could be removed so an old style stock would also work on a newer model.

They wont be "pretty as new" but both stocks can be made "usable" from one gun to the other.

Thanks for that Fingers,

I have not yet heard back from my friend (he lives out in the boonies) but it has not gone away, as far as looming projects goes.
