Hey fellow CGNer's, I have a 38-55 Winchester 1894 rifle. From what I've measured the barrel is 26" long.(including the 1/2" inside the receiver). I have ran the serial number on a Winchester site and it tell me it was made in 1897. My question is what model of the '94 would this be? Also what is it's approximate value? I have no intention on selling it as my father really like's shooting it. Just for curiosity sake. Any info would be appreciated. Here are some pictures. Thanks......

Depending on the barrel, $400.00 +-

Still a fair number of them around. Elwood Epps normally lists a few of them all the time. Check it out and compare.

I had a similar one that I cut the barrel at 18" and cut the mag. tube back to a 3/4 lenght.

Refinished it and it was the handiest bush carbine you could ever find.

cheers

You have the rifle version, there is also a carbine version with a 20 inch barrel and different wood. The 18 in 1894 was dropped from use about no. 500,000 and just Model 94 was used

Thanks for the replies folks. The gun is in very good mechanical condition and shoots quite well. I just wanted to hear from the experts here as I was not real successful with my net search.

Your winchester is a harder to find calibre these days and it looks like a lot of the bluing is still on the barrel and mag. Yes Eps has them in this calibre for sale at about 550 to 750 but the ones I seen had no bluing on the barrel hardly it all and were not as good of condition as yours appears to be. Good one to keep.
