Was just thinking much like the ruger no1 in 303 brit, perhaps next time winchester does a run of 1895 leaver's they could be asked to make a batch in 303 brit which would be a hit in Canada as well as Australia,NZ, South Africa and the UK

I would so much rather they make them in 30& or 762x54R.

Oh what I would do for a Russian contract 1895.....

"...next time winchester does a run of 1895 leaver's..." 1895 what? Winchester doesn't give a rat's butt about the Canadian market. And there's no demand for a .303 Brit rifle Stateside.

Winchester has been very good to Canadian consumer's with all the canadian winchester centenials etc. And they have a good foot hold in Australia as well, If they know people will by them I think they would make them Ruger did and infact many Americans bought the ruger in 303 brit as well. So unless you are a sales rep from winchester I don't give your remark much thought!

The originals were chambered in .303British. I've seen one or two show up on the EE. So if this is your dream and you don't mind being patient one will eventually turn up.

Get an old beater for a few hundred bucks and slap a 303 barrel on it. One of the finest shooting 1895s I saw was a clapped out 30-40 krag rebarreled with a 1910 ross barrel.

I'd rather have a vintage one than a new re-issue. Safeties on lever guns are the spawn of small evil demons.

X2. Cross bolt safeties on traditional lever guns are an abomination as far as I'm concerned. If you are going to shell out $1200 or so for a new one, you can buy a real nice original for that kind of money. AND the original will appreciate.

I would buy one. I just bought an original this week that I've yet to fire, but I like it. I also have a Browning 1895 .30-06 that I'm planning on reboring to .35 Whelen someday.

I snapped up a really nice one at a local gun store yesterday. It's a 22" barrel model, in 303 Brit...only issue is that someone took it to a gunsmith a long tone ago, and had him do a custom BOSS muzzle job...so, I bought the gun for $300 cash because I like the 303, and I know how solid these guns are...

Took it shooting today, and lo and behold, the custom muzzle job that KILLED the collector value in the gun ACTUALLY WORKS! I was shooting full strength loads, and the recoil was that of an M1 Carbine!

So, rather than fix or rebarrel it, she is gonna stay just how she is.

Shot a great group too!
