Winchester 1895 hammer

I am wondering if this hammer looks odd to anyone else but me. It’s not like the normal ones I’ve seen and wanted to know peoples advice on it. Should I just buy a replacement?

That looks very odd. If it functions I would leave it as there's lots of variation in 1895 parts. Ron

Looks a little like someone ground off the checkering.

But you would be able to see better if it looks like it is smooth or has been re-shaped.

Yeah I’ve had an 95 before and it has had a short checkered hammer. This is super long and sticking straighter out. It just looks off

Maybe the original one broke off the spur, so a new one was welded on?

It's not original , but if it works ? You could find a factory original hammer , but if it's a shooter , why worry ? As has been pointed out , it could be reworked .
