This is perhaps my favorite rifle design, especially in SRC {saddle ring carbine} configuration.

Very lively and handy, not to mention nostalgic, but definitely packing a punch.

I plan to grab one in .30-06 after I move, even better if were possible to get one rechambered in .308?

The Finns rebored/rebarrelled some to 9.3x54R because they couldn't own military calibers for a spell.Would spank moose real good like a 9.3x57

The first 1895 I ever handled was a vintage example in .40-72, mistakenly handed to me by a clueless clerk. I really liked the rifle and it was a good price, but I didn't want to deal with a hard-to-find obsolete caliber.

The receiver sights are good, but I personally prefer a tang sight on my leverguns.

I like having a peep sight closer to my eye, and being able to change aperture sizes so easily.

Anyone thinking of getting a 405 rifle had better get the brass first. I don't think anyone sells 405 brass currently. I was lucky to find four boxes of loaded 405 ammo by Hornady after I bought my 1885 Winchester. I might have been stuck with an 1885 paperweight if I did not get lucky finding discontinued ammo.
