I have a model 1895 Winchester that reads "30 govt. 1906.", I believe this is a 30-06 but all the information I find on these usually reads "30 govt 06". Is this scroll work correct? I have enclosed 2 pictures of the rifle.
Thanks for any comments or information.

Nice rifle!

And yes, it is chambered for what is known today as a 30-06 Springfield. In Europe the cartridge is known as the 7.62×63mm

The original name of the cartridge was "Ball Cartridge, Caliber .30, Model of 1906" which was later shortened to ".30 Govt 1906."

I have a similar one built in 1915, everytime I think of doing a custom lever build off it, i quickly return it to the cabinet as removing the history doesn't seem like the right thing to do.

With the correct bore diameter unlike Ruger's #1 would be nice.i have a 28" 95 in .303 British.Cut one group .880 for 3 shots at 100 yards.Mild.......... 174gr SP-37gr RE #15..........Harold
