I am thinking of picking one of these guns up and asking who has first hand experience with them. I understand there are a couple variations of the Winchester 190 but I am looking at a 190 variation.

How are they for a plinking and hunting rifle? Mainly asking about reliability since that is the most important thing to me

Over the years I have had a couple of Model 190 rifles. The rifles were very inexpensive for Winchester to manufacture. For myself, I have never found a self loading .22 at any price, that is more reliable than the Model 190.The one I have at the present time ,I allowed to get dirty beyond all reason.Fired the rifle as fast as I could pull the trigger in an attempt to get it to jam.I could not get it to jam.I must say the triggers on these rifles are just terrible, but will work for plinking or rabbit hunting.

If Winchester would have built the Model 190 with a better trigger and wood,it could have been a real classic for them.In my opinion.

There is no question that the Winchester Model 190 is a cheaply built rifle. In the time it was designed ,Winchester wasted no expensive in making it as cheap a rifle as possible.LOL However, of the two rifles I have owned ,I never had a jam in either one of them. That really surprised me,because as cheaply as they were built, I figured they would jam all the time.Especially after they got a bit dirty. My experience has been just the opposite to that.Never a jam or misfire.

This has been my experience ,based on two rifles.Others could have had different experiences with the Model 190 rifle.Of all the other .22 calibre self loading rifles I have owned ,all have had jams at one time or other. Some more often that I thought they should. My Model 190 however, just keeps rolling along.LOL
