I am waiting on the pictures and or the box with the shotgun in it, but anyone have any good info on the winchester 1901 10 gauge lever action shotgun? I haven't really got any idea as to value of such a beast and don't even know where to start with the offers. The fine gentleman who owns it is the original owner and has put less then 2 boxes of ammo through it, how it has been stored and how it has been handled is yet to be seen, any foresight would be appreciated

The average battered and bruised specimen of the model 1901 seems to sell in the neighbourhood of $1000. A shotgun that has has only two boxes fired and stored well would be worth well north of $2000. Pics are required really. If the seller is the original owner he must be a very old man.

I can bet its seen more then that considering they stopped being produced in 1920 the 10ga should have a 2 7/8's chamber so you will need to reload for it

this guy is the original owner, he is now 88 years old and knows the history of the gun in question as he bought it new way back when, he says if it didn't kick like a mule he would have shot it more

Ironically enough, any of our hotter 12 gauge rounds would be far more lively than the old 10's.
I'd never tell the old guys that of course, let them have the stories. Kind of like a family friend who would never shoot a deer with his 38-55 again " Blows them to smithereens! ". Umm, yeah...wow...really?
My son's got a 1901 winchester too. Neat gun.
