Just curious why nobody rebores/rechambers those cheap old 1907's in .351 WSL or .35 WSL to .357 mag? seems like it would be a nostalgic piece that would be fun for plinking and cheaply acquired.

Pressures of the case would be lower with the .357 mag, might have .15 more freebore then you need.

You are talking about apples and oranges here. The 357 has a rim and the 351 is rimless. The magazine would not accept the 357 case.

Re-barrel to .30 carbine apparently a .32 SL extractor works....could you not machine the rim off .357 brass and cut a groove?....Harold

I have done a some conversions on some basket cases and as bearhunter stated the rimmed case is the hold back

So you are the right fella to ask the question to then! Beautiful work there BTW! , but you did get a 1910 to feed .357 mag in your link? I would think the extractor could just be filed a bit for the larger (0.9mm diameter bigger) rim. Was it really that tight?

Also, I see what your saying now as per rimmed vs. non rimmed, but it's less then 1mm difference (10.3mm vs. 11.2) and I would think there would be .9mm clearance in the mag or at least it could be tweaked a pinch, any other thoughts about the 1910 or 1907 conversion to .357 mag, and thoughts on price to do the conversion? Edit: I see the 1910 didn't come in .35 or .351

on the 1910 the extractor is good as is ,but the bolt needs to be lightened up by milling aprox 8oz off it .The mag needed .100 ramp attached to the follower slopeing to the rear soldered on the front of the follower to feed because of the rimmed cases ,otherwise the 357 cases fit the mag good. Now the barrel ,the first attempt I screwed a 351 1907 barrel to the receiver with the chamber only cut to accept the rimmed case and the under lug modified to utelize the 1910 recoil spring and guide .

It shot and cycled the 357 bear loads with no Issues and grouped at under 1" at 50 yards.I then changed to the barrel to a proper 357 barrel and chambered to 357 max and the end result was still grouping at under 1" at 50 yards .So If I was to do it again I would use the 1907 barrel and cut the chamber to accept the 357 rim as it is a lot of work to make up a selfloading barrel for no gain in group.

If you have the equipment lathe and mill and the time.A 1907 and 1910 a pile of patience there is not much cost as both barrels have the same size threads .

There is more to it but this is the condensed version

Thanks Peter, you paint the picture as to what needs to be done very well, and end the idea that it could be a simple project, I'm surprised there was 8oz of metal to be taken off the bolt!

It was a bit more intimidating when I started as I couldn't find any info on the first conversion I seen in pics ,a 30 carbine on a 1905. So we gave it a kick as nothing ventured nothing gained and some trial and error one led to another. There are currently 2 of the 357/360 1910's out there one with the 351 barrel I still have and the other with the 357 barrel I gave to my uncle and both are cerakoted in socom blue
cheers Peter

Thats pretty rad, you should post the adventure with pictures up, lots to be learnt from that.

No grove required...just the cutting down of the rim, mine shoots 357 magnum all day long, with the rim, trimmed down. Throws them like it should...
