Winchester 24

Anybody had any experience with the old Winchester 24 double gun? I have a chance to pick one up reasonable($350). It's a 16 gauge and though the action profile is different than the norm, it seems quite well balanced and pointable.

The Winchester Model 24 is a good solid SXS.They are well made and I have not heard of any problems with them.

The only issues that sometimes come up with 24's is that they are somewhat tight chambered and do not generaly like reloads and some factory ammo (cured easly by polishing chambers). The other thing is caused, I believe, by tight chambers is that the extractor springs weaken -- easy to replace. Otherwise they are great guns in 16 & 20ga. 12 ga offerings in model 24's tend to be clubby. $350 is reasonable if the gun is in very good condition -- theu do not command big prices in this country -- a very good one in the US will bring $500 to $600.

Interesting . . . I don't think I've ever heard of the 24.

Grouse Man, there are a few on Gunbroker if you're interested in having a look at one.

John Dickson invented the "Round Action". Winchester then invented the "Rotund Action" and used it for the Model 24.
