A question for the shotgun mechanics. What, beyond the splines and a friction fit holds the magazine tube in the action on a Winchester 2400?
I ended up with this one in some swap or other, and my kid was using it this year as sort of a cheap stop-gap between his 870 youth and something with 2 barrels.
Anyhow, a couple of stoppages yesterday prompted me to check it out, and point out in all-knowing father fashion that his trouble stemmed from his barrel being about to fall off.
Taking the fore-end and barrel off showed that there was about 3/4" of splines showing where the mag tube fits into the aluminum action. I could bang it back into place by hand, and he finished the day with my old Fabarm O/U.
Is this a common problem? I can see this one finding a new home, say, at the bottom of a lake.
