I have not as yet seen any 25-35 data. I have been experimenting with a Winchester Model 94 Trails End (tang safety), 24" octagon barrel. My goal is to get close to the performance of my 7-30 waters, which consistently puts out 2700+fps chrono results. I was hoping to get into the 3000fps velocitiies. As there is next to s**t available data for this round, I was hoping to find another 25-35 nut out there that had some notes to share.
Factory load: Winchester 117g, flat nose.
All loads at 30.5 grains of IMR 4895
85g grain Nosler 1850fps, excellent 17fps SD
110g Speers 1830fps, disgusting 17- fps SD
117g Hornady SST 1867fps, excellent 13fps SD
117g Winchester factory load, 2440 fps, 27fps SD
We repeated the test with 110g SPeers bullets 3x. All 3x the SD was huge. Anyone have any ideas?
I am damn close to max load, although no eveidence whatever of over pressure. I am confused by the crappy velocity, and have no expanation whatever for the inconsistency observed in the Speers experiment.
Just for clarity. the Nosler bullets are a polymer tip, high BC jacketed bullet.
The Speers is a lead tip (soft point), but high BC jackected bullet.
The Hornady SST is a polymer tip , Highest BC jacketed bullet.
The factory load is a flat point, unjacketed, low BC bullet.
