Just came back from the in-laws. The father in law has a Winchester 94 in 32-40 with a octangle barrel. It is still tight but has sceen better days though. He has has it for about 40 years and picked it up used from a friend. He was wondering what it would be worth(a really rough estimate). It's worth nothing to me as I don't use lever actions except for teaching the firearms course.

You may want to try picking up of the Blue Book of Gun Values it will give you and idea of what its worth.

I found the Blue Book to be not real relative here in Kanada! Some of their values are just plain out to lunch

X 2 what John says

"sceen better days though." doesn't sound good! But it is a hex 32-40 so my suggestion is $3-400.

Thanks for the info guy's. I may have been to harsh in assessing it as "seen better days.". It is in pretty good shape compared to some of the others I have seen online. I guess my question is how common was 32-40 cal and was the hex barrel something special?

The .32-40 and .38-55 ctgs were what the Win 1894 came in during it's first two years or so of prodcution. The .30-30 for which the '94 is best known didn't come out in it right away. So, the value of this .32-40 you speak of will depend greatly on whether it was just a 'run-of-the-mill' '94 or whether it has 'special order' features, like take-down barrel model or shot-gun butt plate, etc. Way back when one could special order '94 with all kinds of features off the Winchester company 'menu' of the day. Without pics & a detailed description and someone knowledgeable to evaluate it it is difficult to put a value on it. :?
